News from home

I still get a little choked up when I read about the first stabbing of the year. God I miss home.

Mike Johnson had just picked up a pizza for dinner and was about to sit down and eat when he heard loud banging on his door.
"I opened the door and saw some guy with a knife stuck in the right side of his head," said Johnson, standing outside his Lloyd Street apartment about two hours after his visitor was stabbed.
The incident occurred minutes after Johnson returned home from working in Ottawa. He said he had just finished carrying luggage from his vehicle into his basement apartment when he heard the fierce knocking on the door.
"Obviously, he was banging for his life," he said.
Johnson said he"freaked out" when he saw the knife in the victim's head. "I didn't know what to do. I've never even seen this on TV."
Johnson said he was amazed that the victim remained conscious because the weapon, which appeared to be a steak knife, was lodged in an upward direction in his head.
Johnson said the victim remained calm while he waited for an ambulance to arrive.
"He was standing up and my neighbour told him to sit down," he said.

A few thoughts:
• I'm a little disappointed TV hadn't taught Johnson how to handle this situation. A little more Life Network Johnson, and a little less MuchMusic and Monster Garage. Alright?
• The victim was conscious and moving around. Sudburians are a resilient bunch.
• Johnson works in Ottawa but lives in Sudbury? That's one bitch of a commute.
